Fav place to ride: Santa's Village here in good old Bracebridge
First bike I ever bought myself: 2001 Kona Stuff for $1500, Worked my tail off for that one.
Bike I ride now: 2001 Giant AC1
Why I started racing: My buddy Nic was into it and he got me out there a few times. I wasn't half bad and in no time, I was hooked! It came naturally to me, which made it much more enjoyable and less of a chore. Racing was just loads of fun and it kept me busy.
Racing Career: I have raced 24 hour events, many different local Cross-Country series, and Downhill. I started racing Cross-Countryin 1998 at Hardwood Hills in Barrie, Ontario and continued to do so through 2000 when I had moved to Bracebridge. I continued to race Cross-Country and 24 Hour events until I fell in love with hucking myself down mountains in 2004. Since then I have competed in races all over Ontario and Quebec, participating in the O-CUP circuit, continually progressing toward that #1 Position.
Best riding experience: I was racing at Camp Fortune in Quebec and I got a flat. I went through a section we call "The Dump" for obvious rock filled reasons. The crowd was silent and some guy yelled out, "HURRY UP! GO FASTER!" I yelled back, "I have a flat." Then the crowd went nuts. That made me laugh a lot. Another good memory was a race at a race in Milton, ON. i went off a drop and landed hard on my front wheel. I pulled back as hard as i could and all of a sudden was doing a wheelie and about to go over backwards. I recovered and continued on. I could hear the crowd go "OOHH, OOHHH, 'hold their breath', YEAH!" If I create an entertaining moment in their life, my job is done.
Worst riding experience: I was riding out a section with a flat tire. I had to drop in from about 20 feet up and it was all rock, smooth rock, but rock none the less. I rode the drop in, but I washed out in the dirt about 40 feet from the bottom. The only two rocks in the area I landed on. I nailed the biggest rock with my hip and my head bounced off the smaller rock. I couldn't finish my run let alone walk for 15 minutes after that fall. I still have that lump on my thigh from that crash, almost a year later.
Inspiration: My inspirations come form everywhere around me and just being able to look back at say, "Yeah, I did that."
Sports other than biking: Ripping up the powder on my snowboard is by far the second best. But, I also enjoy playing any other sport. As long as I am moving, I'm good.
Goals: Train as hard as I can, when I can. Ride the crap out of my bike and myself in my race runs. Represent Shokkwear as best I can. |
